According to the Todd County Sheriff’s Department, on August 14, at 1:35 p.m., Iona Hayes of rural Clarissa was driving east on County Road 84, south of Clarissa, in her 2005 Dodge mini van when she lost control.

    The van went in the ditch and hit a power pole, causing the pole to break and the lines to fall down. A grass fire was also started from the power downed lines.     

    The power outage lasted approximately an hour to two hours in some areas and affected over 1000 Minnesota Power customers. 

    The Clarissa Fire Department and Browerville Ambulance assisted at the scene.
