A fire which occurred on Saturday, June 2, at Central Bi Products in Long Prairie injured one man and caused damage to the tower of the building. According to Long Prairie Fire Chief Jim Kreemer, the Long Prairie Fire Department was called out to the blaze at 7:05 p.m. Shortly after, they called for assistance from the Browerville and Clarissa fire departments for manpower and pumper trucks. Kreemer said that a fire was in a bin and possibly ignited dust when an attempt to extinguish the fire was made. This caused an explosion and a fireball that went up the tower. The foreman (name not released at this time) who was on site received burns to his body in the fire and was transported by the Long Prairie Ambulance to the CentraCare—Long Prairie Hospital. The fire did some damage to the tower. The Long Prairie Fire Department was on-scene for two and a half hours. The Browerville and Clarissa departments were on the scene for about two hours each.
