When Alexis Johnson of Browerville was in third grade—around 2013—she heard something on the news that made her take an action that few people at her age—or at any age—would take. She started to collect socks.
Socks? Like the things that you wear on your feet?
Yes, those socks.
According to her mom, Samantha Johnson, they didn’t usually have the news on and so having the television on a news station was unusual in the first place.
“The news was on and I heard them say that socks were one of the least donated, but most needed items,” said Alexis, who is now an eighth grader at Browerville Public School. . . .
