25 Years Ago

September 14, 1995

Many have been intrigued by Paul Johnson’s edge of town complex for the five years that he has been in business in Browerville. Starting with the recently repainted totem pole that stands guard over the expanding business and going right to the “something different every day” merchandise displayed in the front yard. A place that has been called Browerville Bait and Tackle, Browerville Bait and Pawn, Browerville Bargain and Pawn, and at least two or three other names, “I’ve settled on Paul’s Pawn and Bargains. Home of the Bottom Buck Bargains,” said Johnson.

Teachers join the staff at Browerville—Craig and Terri Fahrendorf both graduated from Moorhead State University and this is their first year teaching. Amy Colombo, the fourth grade teacher at Christ the King, is a graduate of St. Ben’s and this is her first year teaching. Jean Prom, the second and third-grade teacher at Christ the King, graduated from St. Cloud State in March. Catherine Krog, the principal, Christ the King, graduated from Mankato State University in 1981. Jody Hagenson, art teacher, Browerville Public, taught seven years at Norman County West. Chris Johnson, sixth-grade teacher, Christ the King, graduated from Bemidji State in 1993.

September 15, 1945

Mrs. Rudolph Spiegelberg is assisting Mrs. Regina Biermaier with the hot lunch program at the public school this year. Mrs. Biermaier, the supervisor of the project, stated that she served nearly a hundred students on the first day of school.

The several thousand farmers of the Douglas-Pope-Todd counties area are expected to greet with enthusiasm the latest move in the “quality milk” program—the definite establishment of a worthwhile price differential on grades of milk. The price differential of 10 cents on milk and three cents on butterfat in cream has been adopted in the area for three grades of each product and is recommended for use by dairy products purchasers throughout the entire state.
