Photo #1: Following the Pledge of Allegiance, The Star Spangled Banner and God Bless America was sung by the students, Superintendent Paul Brownlow recalled the events of September 11, 2001 with the Verndale Elementary students and members of the community. They shared a moment of silence for the nearly 3000 people who died that day when four planes were hijacked and crashed into the World Trade Center, The Pentagon and a field in Pennsylvania. Photo #2: the Verndale Elementary students dressed in red, white and blue and made patriotic banners and carried flags down main street for a Patriot Day parade that ended at McNair Park. A short ceremony was held in remembrance of the victims of the terrorist attacks on September 11, 2001.
