The Browerville Food Shelf has been around since the 1980s. It began with local resident Vince Leason looking for food baskets for a few families at Christmas time. The religious sisters working at the hospital were able to help gather items for the families.
From this first initiation, the program grew and relocated to the basement of city hall.
Of course, being located in a basement created challenges as the once-a-week delivery of food items had to be carried down the steps, along with food shelf clients having to navigate the stairs. There was also very limited space for product....
