A Matter of Perspective
There has been a lot of talk lately about how AI could one day take over jobs like mine.
I thought I would try a little experiment. I wanted to see how AI writing worked. So I used a program that uses Artificial Intelligence (AI) writing and told the program what I wanted.
I asked for a 100-word article about what AI writing is.
Here is what I got:
“AI writing is a process where a computer is used to generate written content. It uses natural language processing (NLP) and natural language generation (NLG) to create original and creative content with the same level of accuracy and fluency as a human writer. AI-generated content relies on data analysis to identify patterns, trends, and correlations between sets of data. This allows AI to generate unique and innovative writing that matches the intended style and tone of the writer.
“AI writing tools can be used to generate blog posts, articles, web copy, marketing materials, and even books. AI-based programs are able to quickly identify topics, generate outlines, write copy, and even review and edit the final product. These tools save time and money by eliminating the need for a human writer and streamlining the writing process. With AI-based tools, anyone can create quality and engaging content in no time.”
Wow! Talk about being made to feel obsolete!
It took less than 30 seconds for the AI program to pull that article together. It would have taken me at least five minutes to write it and about 20-30 minutes to do the little bit of research required to write those approximate 100 words!
It is true, AI could change the way we do things.
For example, if I had a story where I could do broad research to back up something on a local level, I could use AI and write that research part since AI scans the web and finds things to put together for that. I wouldn’t have to do that tedious searching and finding the correct search term. AI would do that for me.
While I am not planning to use AI to write my stories anytime soon, I think it would ease the burden of some of the research that can be painstakingly long to do.
Will AI take over the job of writing for humans? I don’t think it will, however with the quality and speed of AI writing, I think some of the “lazier” writers will use it and use it frequently.
I do have a conscience and I would not be able to claim AI writing as my own. If ever I do use it, I will let you know just as I did above.
The innovations of the world never cease to amaze me. Let me know what you think.
