A Matter of Perspective
I was thinking about this the other day...
I was thinking about how easy it is to believe there is a devil when we look around and see all the bad stuff, the absolute evil that takes place daily in our world.
That led me to the thought about why doesn’t that translate to their being a God when good stuff happens? Instead, we often congratulate ourselves as humans on how smart and resourceful we are. We so easily deny that God has anything to do with our daily lives. We so easily accept that Satan is alive and well on planet earth.
Why is that?
I know there are some who deny there is either entity.
When my late mom worked in the Twin Cities she worked with a man who proclaimed he was an atheist.
One day, getting tired of hearing him go on and on about how there was no God, my mom asked him, “If there is no God why do you keep saying His name and His son’s name?”
The guy looked confused.
She said, “You are always saying, ‘G..damn’ this or that or ‘Jesus Christ!’”
He looked embarrassed, she told us.
I don’t know if he completely stopped taking the name of the Lord in vain, but she did say he was a lot more mindful of what he said in the future.
I don’t know why, if people don’t believe there is a God, they swear using His name.
I am not proud to say that I even do it sometimes.
