A Matter of Perspective

I went to a protest that was held in Long Prairie on Saturday. It was the first time in my memory that I have done so. I took photos along Highway 71 of the “sides” represented—President Donald Trump supporters and those who were supporting other ideals.

There was a clear division.

I’m not going to go into who said what or who did what.

What I am asking is that both “sides” realize what is happening here—we are becoming divided.

Most of us were not alive during the Civil War, but some of us remember studying it in history class or hearing a grandparent or great-grandparent talking about it.

It was division. Some believed in one ideal and others believed in another.

Are we headed toward another Civil War—which, if I recall from history, was anything but “civil.” Brothers fought and killed brothers.

Do you really want to fight and kill your own brothers, sisters, friends, neighbors?

I’m not saying it will come to this, but it certainly has shades of gray that make it not out of the realm of possibility.

I was at the protest to support my friend who is Navajo and her support of the Navajo veterans and veterans as a whole.

I learned a lot about the division between the “sides” while attending the protest.

I am not sure I will attend another. I put on my essential oil “Letting Go of Fear” before I went because, quite honestly, I was fearful of what might happen.

There were people shouting at the protesters. There were people flipping the protesters off. There were big trucks spewing black smoke driving up and down Highway 71 in what I can only assume was an attempt to intimidate the protesters.

I am not judging anyone’s intentions. I can’t. I can only speak for myself. My intention was to support my friend. That is what I did.
