Do you know what the Todd County Soil and Water organization is all about?
A tour held recently, the 4th Annual “Trek Across Todd County”, showed what the employees of the Todd County Soil and Water organization have been working on this past year, in the northern half of Todd County.
The tour took participants through three of the six Todd County watershed areas, which Todd Soil and Water Conservation District (SWCD) is tasked to protect: The Wing River of the Red Eye Watershed, the Partridge River, and the northern tip of the Crow Wing in Staples.
The tour began by looking at damage done to fields and infrastructure from the recent excessive rains that came in a short period in early June.
At Eagle Bend, a visit was made to a Minnesota Department of Natural Resources (DNR) observation well that measures the depth of the water table (H20) in relation to the aquifer, showing H20 available for public and private usage.
It was noted that water levels increased by nearly a foot since the last measurement taken in May.
Todd SWCD monitors 13 of these wells throughout the county each month.
Heading out northeast of Eagle Bend, the tour witnessed damage from the tornado still evident from two years ago, and fields utilizing contour stripping were observed....
