Back-to-back storms dump over a foot of snow
Snow, ice, and extreme cold moved in just after Christmas, leaving residents with over a foot of snow to dig out of.
The snowstorm started on Sunday, December 26, and ended the following day with over 13 inches reported in Bertha and over 11 inches in Wadena. Many people had snow past their knees as they attempted to shovel themselves out.
Another storm passed through on Tuesday, December 28, with Wadena reporting an additional 8 inches and Verndale another 4.5 inches of snow.
The back-to-back storms left the roads snow and ice covered and plows tried to keep up with the snowfall.
The cold crept in on Wednesday, December 29, with windchills reaching 25 below.
