The Bertha-Hewitt Bears boys basketball team faced a challenging week, competing in three games - winning 1 and losing 2 of the games. Despite the losses, the Bears demonstrated comeback efforts and growth, keeping all contests competitive.
On Tuesday night, the Bears traveled to Ashby and edged out a thrilling 64-61 victory over the Arrows.
The game was a back-and-forth battle, with the Bears being down by as many as 7 and leading by as many as 9 points. Shooting 64% from beyond the arc and capitalizing on opportunities in the paint, the Bears built a nine-point lead with one minute remaining.
However, full-court pressure from Ashby forced turnovers and tightened the gap. With just 0.8 seconds on the clock, Logan Christenson hit a crucial free throw to secure the win. Trenton Becker sealed the victory with a heads-up play and a steal as time expired.
Top scorers included Brady Rach with 18 points, Trenton Becker with 17, and Quintin Flynn, who added 10 points and 10 rebounds. Contributions also came from Jalen Hinzmann (6), Logan Christenson (6), Carter Wilhelmi (3), Jake Schmitz (2), and Rowan Hauer (2)....
