On Wednesday, October 16, the Bertha-Hewitt Bears traveled to McGregor to face the 1-6 Mercuries. The Bears’ offense ground out a solid performance, with multiple players scoring in a team effort.

“It was great to see our team work together despite the injuries we’ve faced this year. Other players had to step up, and they certainly did,” said Coach Jared Hoemberg.

In a closely contested game with both teams trading scores, the Bears managed to hold a lead throughout.

“It was nice to get up and keep a lead,” Hoemberg added. The Bears sealed the game by converting a critical fourth down, then kneeled out the clock to victory.

“This season hasn’t gone perfectly, but scratching our way to a .500 record—the first time in half a decade—has been quite an accomplishment. It’s because of the hard work of everyone in our program. I’m so proud of what we’ve done so far,” said Hoemberg.

The Bears entered the Section 5 9-Player tournament as the #6 seed, facing #3 seed Ogilvie on Tuesday, October 22.
