Bears looking to rebound as season winds down
by Coach Steven Kvam
The Bertha-Hewitt Bears took on 3 Park Region Conference opponents this busy past week. The Bears fell in all 3 contests.
On Monday night, the Bears traveled to Wadena-Deer Creek to take on the Wolverines in a make-up game from December.
The Bears started the game with a 3-point shot from Ashley Warren followed by a give-and-go between Taylor Lloyd and Carissa Winscher. Winscher then took the ball to the basket on the next possession to give the Bears a quick lead.
The Wolverines and offenses were evenly matched over the first 6 minutes with the game standing 9–9.
The Wolverines went on a short run to get ahead 31– 6, but the Bears battled back to cut the lead to 11 at the end of the first half.
The second half started with Ava Bauch and Wincher each getting a put-back to get the scoring started for the Bears. Unfortunately for the Bears, a cold night from the 3-point line sealed their fate, with the Wolverines hitting 8 3’s to take the game 67–38. . .
