Bears make a push towards playoffs

The Bertha-Hewitt Bears have continued their successes this winter.

They are currently 16 – 5 on the season, with playoffs fast approaching.

The Bears have suffered losses to the Menahga Braves, Wadena – Deer Creek Wolverines twice each and the New York Mills Eagles once.

The Bears are currently sitting at 2nd in Section 5A West and 4th in the Park Region Conference.

The Bears have games left with the Verndale Pirates and New York Mills Eagles to wrap up conference play. They end the week with games against St John’s, Upsala, and Rothsay.

January was a month full of tough games for the Bears, ending the month with 5 games in 8 days.

Many different players have stepped up big for the Bears in these contests with some spectacular performances.

Right before Winter Break, Senior Rochelle Dean had a monster game for the Bears with 20 points, 7 rebounds, and 4 steals to seal a 66 – 63 victory over the Sebeka Trojans.

Junior Piper Dean followed that the next game with an 18 point, 9 rebound, 8 steal, and 6 assist game to lead the Bears to a 62 – 57 win over the Swanville Bulldogs.

In mid-January, the Bears traveled to Pillager, coming away with the win 67 – 50....
