Bears place 6th and 9th out of 21 teams at Wadena cross country meetFinish 12th and 7th out of 31 teams at Moorhead meet

The Bertha-Hewitt Bears traveled to the Whitetail Run Golf Course in Wadena on Tuesday September 3 for their second meet of the season.
The weather was warm and windy on a very challenging course. In the junior high girls race, Lauren Anderson placed 14th overall in a very competitive field and covered the 3000 meter course in 15:22.
She was followed by Lindsey Stange who finished 23rd (16:47) in her first ever cross country race.
For the boys, Nolan Rach led the way by winning the race in 11:41.9 followed by Vance Lockwood in 7th place. (12:24.6). Rounding out the Junior High race was Bently Hauer who finished the 3k race in 13:50.5 for a 24th place finish.
The girls varsity race saw Kendra Miller lead the way again by finishing the 3.1 mile (5k) race in 5th place with a time of 21:29.2.
The second Bears runner across the line was Ella Banister in 21st place (22:47.9), followed by Aulani Johnson in 51st place (24:49.9), Lezah Dean in 60th place (25:37.3), Eva Blashack in 83rd place (28:10.2) and Mckayla Kapphahn in 85th (28:41.6).
The Lady Bears are not at full strength but still managed to run to a 6th place finish in the 21 team field.
The boys Varsity race saw Brady Rach lead the way for the Bears with a time 18:16.7 for an 8th place finish.
Gunnar Barthel was second across the line by placing 26th (19:36.1), followed by Jalen Hinzmann 45th (20:30.1), Gavin Brown 56th (21:01.6) and William Brandsma 103rd (25:03.3).
The Bears finished in 9th place in the 21 team field. The Bears next travel to Minnesota State University Moorhead on Friday September 13 to run on a very flat and fast course....
