The Bertha-Hewitt Bears football team kicked off their season with a promising 3-1 record, securing wins over Northwoods, Carlton-Wrenshall, and Verndale, while narrowly losing to Cromwell-Wright in a thrilling contest.

The Bears opened the season with a 34-18 victory over the Northwoods Grizzlies.

“We played well for our first game,” said Head Coach Jared Hoemberg.

The Bears dominated the turnover battle and outgained the Grizzlies by nearly 100 yards.

“It was fun to watch our kids succeed in the run game and move the ball,” Hoemberg added.

In their second game, the Bears traveled to Carlton-Wrenshall to face the Raptors. They stormed out to a 27-0 lead in the first quarter, eventually winning 55-0. “Carlton is a young team still learning, and I give them credit for never giving up,” said Hoemberg. “It was great to get our younger kids playing time and see what they can do.”...
