Bertha-Hewitt Names Retired Superintendent to Lead School Amid Shifting Demands

Bertha-Hewitt will have a new superintendent, David Fjeldheim, starting July 1.
He retired from his superintendent position at the Sebeka School in 2023 but has not stopped teaching. He filled in at the Walker School as an industrial arts teacher while their regular teacher battled cancer. He also did mentorship work with other superintendents. This school year, he continued to substitute.
“I miss the colleagues. I miss the interaction. I miss the kids more than anything. So I thought I might pursue this for a few more years,” said Fjeldheim.
Currently residing in Nevis, the South Dakota native has over 40 years of experience in education.
