Cantleberry battles cancer with hope, community support and faith

by Trinity Gruenberg

Brad Cantleberry, better known by his radio persona, Brad Williams, is in high spirits as he nears the end of his chemotherapy treatments for his widespread cancer.

Cantleberry was diagnosed on July 11 with stage 4 Diffused Large B-cell lymphoma that spread throughout his body.

“I know the treatments are working. I’ve got two more to go. The key is what happens when I’m done with treatments,” he said.

He is optimistic that he will soon be in remission as he patiently awaits the results of a recent PET scan. He is grateful to receive treatment close to home at Lakewood Health System under the care of Dr. Wade Swenson and his team.

“My lungs and my breathing and just how I feel inside, my appetite, my energy level, all that is way higher,” Cantleberry said with a smile.

He began noticing something was off last November. He had flu-like symptoms and went to the hospital in December and was tested for the typical winter ailments. Nothing raised a red flag.

Cantleberry returned to the doctor in January, but he still wasn’t feeling better. Thinking he may have bronchitis, they put him on an antibiotic. He returned three weeks later, not feeling better and losing his voice. An x-ray was performed on his chest, revealing what may have been pneumonia, and they put him on another antibiotic.

He began to feel better until the treatment was done, and then started to decline again....
