Cell phone alert sparks quick response to crash

The Becker County Sheriff’s Office received a cell phone detected crash at the County Road 151 and 460th Avenue intersection at 4:45 a.m. in Toad Lake Township.

A deputy arrived on the scene at 5 a.m. and located a single vehicle that had crashed into the trees at that intersection.

A male driver, who was the sole occupant, was located inside the vehicle with what appeared to be extensive injuries. The deputy performed life-saving measures until additional first responders arrived on the scene.

The driver was identified as Kelly William Paurus, 40, of Menahga. Paurus was flown to a Fargo hospital for further treatment where his condition remains unknown.

Wolf Lake Fire and Rescue, North Memorial, and Life Link assisted the sheriff’s office.

The cause of the crash remains under investigation.
