Clarissa grandmother warms hearts with handmade headbands

A Clarissa grandmother has made hundreds of polar fleece headbands for students at the Bertha-Hewitt School.

Trudy Larson has been a lifelong sewer and frequently makes things for others.

In a warehouse, she made headbands for former co-workers that fit over a baseball cap.

“I have so much polar fleece. What can I do with it?” Larson questioned.

She shared that she was an impulse buyer with a large stash of polar fleece.

Her grandson is a senior at the Bertha-Hewitt School. She initially thought she wanted to make headbands for the students, but she didn’t have enough material. Larson figured she could maybe make enough for the majority of the kids.

Uncertain if the high school kids would wear them, she asked them.

“The high school kids came into the office and I had a couple of examples, and I said, ‘you guys if I made these, would you wear them?’ and they all said yes. And so I thought, well, good, you know, it’s something they can stash in their pocket,” said Larson.

The plan was to do it last year, but she didn’t get around to it. So, this year she called the school and tried to get an estimate of how many she would need....
