The Wadena County Commissioners went on a field trip to check out the former Bell Hill property.

Commissioners Bill Stearns, Murlyn Kreklau, Ron Noon, and Brian Winkels, along with Maintenance Supervisor Sean Uselman and Auditor/Treasurer Heather Olson, met at the Bell Hill property on Thursday morning, January 16.

The property, a former Air Force General Surveillance Radar Station, was constructed in 1952 and closed in 1970.

The Bell Hill Recovery Center, a non-profit adult rehabilitation facility, began in 1973. Its inpatient treatment program was relapsed-based, and typical treatment was 45-90 days. The 47 rural acres approximately six miles north of Wadena provided a chemical-free living environment.

The facility featured dormitories, a dining room, a recreation center, a gym, a hobby shop, a TV lounge, group rooms, and offices. It had a six-bed capacity for females and a 64-bed capacity for males....
