County 14 bridge replacement nearing completion


During a routine annual bridge inspection, the county determined that the bridge on County State Highway 14 (which was originally built in 1970) was “structurally deficient”. This meant that various elements of the timber bridge were experiencing signs of deterioration. It did not mean that the bridge was unsafe, it just meant that some of the elements (such as the bridge sub-structure and super-structure) were at a point in their life cycle that they either needed to be repaired or replaced in the next ten years or so. Therefore, the most cost-effective way to address the deficiencies was to replace the entire bridge structure.

The bridge construction started during the first part of August with setting up the detour and removal of the old bridge....
