Eagle Bend families speed into go-kart racing
by Trinity Gruenberg
Three Eagle Bend area families immerse themselves in the thrilling world of go-kart racing, where they endure the intense forces, navigate ever-changing conditions, and cultivate mental fortitude, concentration, quick reaction time, and sportsmanship. Unlike leisurely go-karting at mini-golf courses, this heart-pumping sport provides an adrenaline rush, teaching young athletes essential driving skills while building their confidence and discipline.
Each class is divided by age and type of Kart, from Cage to Wing classes, with rules and regulations. Kids can start racing at five years old through adult open classes. Depending on age, Karts have speed inhibitors that prevent them from going faster than a predetermined speed. Safety measures include a racing suit, helmet with shield, neck brace, gloves, a five-point harness, and, depending on the class, a wrist strap.
Karting is a costly sport, with Karts costing from $2000-$20,000, plus the cost of gear, parts, memberships, racing, and travel among the costs. Speeds for the Karts range from 30-60 miles per hour.

“Their dad and grandpa (Dan) used to go-cart race,” explained Taylor...
