Ervasti’s both finish second in State: BHVPP Academic State Champions
by Coach Michael Arvidson
Last weekend was an exciting return to the Xcel Energy Center for the State Championships. It was also a historic weekend as the MSHSL had sanctioned a girl’s division for the first time.
The team competition was on Thursday with lots of great duals coming down to the wire and a buzzing atmosphere that we all realized we missed last season.
On Friday morning we switched to the individual portion of the tournament and it was time to get to work.
Justin Olson was first on the big stage for BHVPP and had the third-seeded wrestler out of the gate. Olson put together a good match including a few nice sequences to stay within striking distance. However, as time slipped away he was unable to do so going down in defeat 6-3. His opponent would get knocked off in the quarterfinals ended a successful eighth-grade campaign for Olson.
Bennet Arceneau was the first step for his opponent on his road to the podium as he went down by fall in the first period. Arceneau was fortunate to get a second match and made the most of it as he wrestled great battling through positions and leaving it all on the mat. In the end, two situations in the neutral position went to his opponent and Arceneau bowed out 4-2 in sudden victory. . .
