Fifty-one acres burned in grass fire


Verndale Fire Chief Mike Madsen observed the DNR helicopter dropping water on the swamp fire in Aldrich while relaying information to his firemen and other fire departments that responded for mutual aid. The fire occurred on July 17, at 12:30 p.m., east of Aldrich on the north side of the road. There were multiple start points along the road, spreading north into the swamp. The fire burned approximately 51 acres. No structures were damaged or lost in the blaze. The Staples, Hewitt, Wadena, Bluffton and Deer Creek fire departments along with the DNR provided mutual aid. They cleared the scene at 2:30 p.m.
