Fire at Central Bi on Sunday
On Sunday, March 6, a fire was discovered by a security guard at Central Bi in Long Prairie at 5:08 a.m. The Long Prairie, Browerville, and Clarissa fire departments responded. The Little Falls Fire Department was called in for a second ladder truck to reach the tower. The fire began in the main rendering plant and followed the ductwork to the air scrubber. Fire crews were on the scene until 10:45 a.m. One fireman was evaluated at the scene and released. Nobody else was in the plant at the time of the fire, and it was shut down for the day and was back in production on Monday. The Long Prairie Fire Department returned later Sunday afternoon to clear up hot spots. They returned again on Monday to help the plant clean up their air scrubber. The cause of the fire is unknown at this time.
