Five injured in head-on collision
According to the Minnesota State Patrol, on August 5, at 10:41 a.m., a 2015 Chevrolet Equinox operated by Kristen Lynn Anderson, 24, of Mooreton, ND, was traveling southbound on Highway 71 approaching Highway 210 in the city of Hewitt. A 2008 GMC Yukon driven by Jennifer Rae Young, 39, of Bertha, was traveling northbound on Highway 71 approaching 210. The Yukon turned in front of the Equinox causing a head-on crash. Anderson was taken to the St. Cloud Hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. Young was taken to the Lakewood ER, then to Brainerd for surgery for non-life-threatening injuries. She was not wearing a seatbelt. Young’s passengers were all wearing seatbelts. Journey Abigail Eggert, 7, and Kylene Christophe Eggert, 9, sustained non-life-threatening injuries. Miles Carter Young, 9, sustained non-life-threatening injuries and was taken to Lakewood. Outside agencies included the St. Cloud Hospital, Life Flight, Hewitt Fire Department, Bertha Fire Department, Bertha Ambulance, Tri-County Ambulance, Verndale Police Department, and the Todd County Sheriff’s Office.
