Saturday was a beautiful day for golf and a little camaraderie in support of a great cause.
Twenty teams signed up for the annual Pink Flamingo Alliance (PFA) golf scramble fundraiser held on June 12 at the Double Eagle Golf Course in Eagle Bend.
The fundraiser supports Todd County residents who are fighting cancer. The PFA sends gift cards in various amounts to those in need to help pay for items such as gas that insurance doesn’t cover.
The fundraiser works to raise money in many ways. According to Sandy Baso, funds are brought in from the teams that participate and businesses sponsor holes for $50, and most have given much more in generous donations.
This year they had a record 80 hole sponsorships. The sponsorships honor those, by name, that are fighting cancer or are in memory of someone who lost their battle. Others are for all survivors or a memorial to all who lost the fight.
“I know people have had a tough year so for people to be so generous is just amazing,” said Baso.
They also hold a raffle. This event has taken place the past 10 plus years, with the exception of last year due to the pandemic.
The PFA started as a Relay for Life team for Todd County. When the relay was disbanded they formed an alliance and raised money with a mission to help as many people in Todd County as they could. . .
