Update On My Lowly Typing Skills

A couple of weeks ago, I wrote about my typing skills and how I was trying to improve them. I downloaded an app and have been faithfully practicing. Just thought I’d give you a progress report...

I started out learning the “home row” and have since moved on to learning both the top and bottom rows which include all 26 letters of the alphabet along with the semicolon, parenthesis, comma, period, and forward slash.

After completing all 35 lessons in the beginner’s section, I advanced to a speed testing section with which I have not impressed myself.

At 4.2 words per minute and an accuracy rating of 65 percent, I find this a bit discouraging. My warp thrusters are depleted.

Learning on a smaller keyboard has actually been easier for me, but I am finding out that when I move to a full-size keyboard the reach to the keys is farther which slows me down even more and I have a higher volume of mistakes.

Another issue for me is that it’s one thing to see the letters on the screen as you’re typing, but as I put together a sentence in my head my fingers don’t move as fast as my thoughts. This is cause for confusion at times and I have to go back and reread and rethink my thoughts.

I refuse to give up and let this thing beat me. I’m not a quitter. However, I have seriously considered the “talk to type” program. Then I reconsidered that option because of my experience with “talk to text” which hasn’t been too good because words get misspelled or mixed up in translation.

I try to utilize my typing skills whenever I can. I even pull out the keyboard to send text messages. It slows down the process, but I do need the practice.

If I could see the corner it wouldn’t be so bad, Nicki!
