Grumpy Old Ganz

The Circle Of Life

For the last few weeks, I’ve been putting up wood and clearing the yard of debris.

While making my rounds, I noticed that Kyle (if you read my editorials you know that he is my trusty sidekick) was having a fit. I went to investigate and saw the issue…a snake.

Kyle’s obsession with killing snakes is unsurpassed.

This large snake was curling and striking him on the nose. I extended a helping hand so he could finish the job he set out to do.

All of a sudden, he got up quickly with his ears moving like radar. He did the infamous head tilt, trying to zone in on a sound.

I stopped and listened, then I heard it, too.

Together we found where it was coming from. It sounded like a mouse.

What we both came upon was a tiny snake with a frog in its mouth trying to constrict it.

Kyle has a love for frogs. When he finds one, he’ll come carrying it in his mouth and then release it as I watch.

I continued to watch the circle of life...but Kyle was getting upset that his little friend was in distress. At this point, he dove to save his little buddy. However, the snake was quicker and slithered off with the frog. Kyle was in hot pursuit.

When he did catch up to the snake, he stepped on it, causing the snake to release the frog. He then invoked the death penalty with extreme prejudice!

After all the commotion, Kyle searched out the frog, finding it and scooping it up into his mouth and he brought it to me. He gently put his mouth on the ground and let the frog go.

I gave it a once over and was assured it would live. However, Kyle wasn’t totally satisfied…he nudged it with his nose from time to time until it finally hopped off.

It was the frog’s lucky day in the course of nature!
