The 1997 district spelling bee was held on Friday, February 14 at the high school. It was one of the best Bees with Cassie Severing taking first place and Justin Boseck finishing second. Cassie and Justin battled for 20 minutes before Justin missed the word “vegetarian”. Cassie spelled the word right and the next word “navigator” to win the competition. Cassie will move on to the Region Spelling Bee in March.

The Rebels won their second game of the week by defeating Royalton at home on February 14. Eagle Valley took an early first-quarter lead behind the inspired play of senior captain Heidi Ziegenhagen’s nine points. After one quarter it was 14-10 Rebels. The home team continued their roll into the second quarter. This frame was led by freshman Dana Dickinson, seven points, as the Rebels led by nine, 27-18 at the half.

February 17, 1972
An announcement was made this week that 10 congregations and six pastors of the area are cooperating in having Lenten Services. Each congregation is planning its own schedule for this opening week of Lent and for the closing week of Lent, Holy Week.

The Clarissa Sno-Cruisers and their guests, Mr. and Mrs. Lauren Hanson of Canada spent Sunday, February 13, afternoon at Raabs Ranch in Long Prairie.
