Seven University of Minnesota, Morris vocal students, under the direction of Janet Ahern, assistant professor of music, will participate in the National Association of Teachers of Singings’ regional audition. The auditions will be held on November 7 and 8 at St. John’s University in Collegeville. Chad VanHeel of Clarissa, tenor, accompanied by Kari Fredericksen of Stillwater on the piano, will attend.

The Clarissa City Council reviewed resumes at last week’s meeting and decided to interview seven of the eight applicants for chief of police. Mayor Schnettler, Councilman Rick Busch, Chief Hulke and Sheriff Kircher interviewed the applicants. They will recommend their choice at the next meeting. He will replace Red Hulke who is retiring on November 30.

Four Clarissa Buccaneers of the Clarissa High School football team were named to the all-conference team of the Prairie Conference by the coaches. Every year coaches of the teams select an all-conference team from the players for the all-conference teams. Players from Clarissa named were Richard Foote, Jim Miller, Don Shields and Floyd Thompson.

JoAnne Anderson of the eighth grade was the high point girl in the Student Council’s subscription drive for the Clarissa Independent. JoAnne earned 150 bonus points by selling a total of $95.25 worth of subscriptions.
