On March 26, the fourth-grade class was visited by Virginia Beach, a representative from the American Dairy Association and “TAD” (Todd’s American Dairy Clown). The class was presented with a talk about a dairy farm and how the cows on the farm produce the dairy products in the stores. The class was able to see the food a dairy cow eats and were told of the volume of food and water consumed in a day. Did you know that a cow eats 90 pounds of food a day? Compare that to 480 hamburgers. They also learned that a cow drinks 25 to 50 gallons of water, like a bathtub full each day. After answering questions, smelling and feeling cow food, the students received ADA pencils and erasers. They were then treated to ice cream cones by Mrs. Beach and TAD.

Kathy is homeschooling her son, Kyle, and the trip to the State Capitol was a lesson in state government. During the day the Wagners met with State Representative Mary Ellen Otremba. Representative Otremba, who is home-schooling her daughter Elizabeth at the Capitol during the legislative session, said she enjoyed visiting with the Wagners and talking to Kyle about what she does as a state representative.
