Margaret Johnson of Clarissa and Kenneth Lindstrom of Long Prairie were selected as Todd County’s 1998 Outstanding Senior Citizens at the Todd County Outstanding Seniors Recognition and Coronation luncheon held at the Staples Community Center on Wednesday, June 17. Queen Margaret and King Kenneth will represent Todd County at the Minnesota Outstanding Senior Contest. Minnesota state winners will be announced on Senior Day, September 3, at the State Fair.

Carol Ann Burtness, Todd County Extension Education, has been academically promoted from Associate Professor to Professor with the University of Minnesota Extension Service, effective July 1. Carol Ann has been an Extension Educator in Todd County for 23 years and has a bachelor's degree and a master's degree from the University of Minnesota.

“Lots of changes have been made since I joined the department,” stated Fred Bain upon his retirement from the Clarissa Fire Department. “Of course, no more than anything else does in 35 years!” Fred announced his retirement this past month from the Clarissa Volunteer Fire Department after being an active member since May 1938. It is believed he has served the longest of any former member of the department.

Phyllis Tinseth, presently employed at Clarissa High School, has been given a professional leave of absence for the 1973-74 school year. She has accepted a one-year appointment by the United States Department of Defense to teach in an overseas dependent school.
