Well, it’s me again (Leona Nelson), so hope you will bear with me as I try to bring you the local news and tidbits. The weatherman and Santa both cooperated and gave us a lovely holiday season. Now we can concentrate on making 1999 a good year.

Marvin and Jean Eisenbraun became great-grandparents for the first time on December 22 when their oldest granddaughter, Wendy, had a baby girl at the Redwood Falls Hospital. She weighed 7 lbs. 8 1/4 oz. and she has been named Brianna Betty. Maternal grandparents are Mr. and Mrs. Leo Murphy of Hector.

The year 1973 will be long remembered by all of us...a year that will go down in history. One of the greatest happenings was the ending of the Viet Nam War, having our boys all return home after a decade of fighting...but it was also a year of mixed feelings in that we Americans learned our government is not infallible, with the Watergate hearing, it’s the first time in history that a vice president resigned and there are talks of impeachment of President Nixon. Not to mention inflation, meat and other shortages and an energy crisis.

Two small children were rescued by their father when flames broke out in the farm home of Ronald Roth located approximately eight miles southeast of Eagle Bend on Wednesday afternoon.
