25 Years Ago

February 10, 1999

Recently, Olivet United Methodist Church in Robbinsdale and Dr. Randy and Joy Taber received national recognition. Their names were submitted as employee-employer outstanding servers of God and country. They were among the top recipients of this Military Service Award. The award recognizes military-civilian service-support and integrity to God and country. Dr. Randy Taber is a major in the Air Force and his daughter Joy is a senior Air Force Airman at the Duluth Clinic. Both are formerly of the area.

Sixth grader Tiffany Benning was the top speller in grades 6-8 for the Eagle Valley School. In a close competition with five other finalists, Tiffany became the 1998-1999 champion of our school by spelling the word ‘oxymoron’ correctly.


50 Years Ago

February 7, 1974

Kay D. Lundstrom has been named Clarissa High School’s 1974 Betty Crocker Family Leader of Tomorrow. Kay won the honor by scoring high in a written knowledge and attitude examination administered to high school seniors here and throughout the county on December 4. She will receive a specially designed award from General Mills, sponsor of the annual Betty Crocker Search for Leadership in Family Living. She also remains eligible for state and national honors.

The 36-state truck strike affected local truckers this past week as some had to leave their rigs. Some parked their trucks and others don’t know for certain whether they’ll get back into the state or not.
