The city of Clarissa held a closed session following their regular meeting to discuss a potential law suit against the city and the liquor store. The city received a claim in excess of $50,000 from attorneys for Bob Heid of Browerville. The claim contends that Heid suffered damage to property, medical expenses and loss of earnings in excess of $50,000 as a result of a car accident on September 9. The claim alleges that the driver of the other vehicle, Neil Kruger of West Union, had been served alcohol at the Clarissa Liquor Store prior to the accident. Kruger was killed in the accident.

Eagle Valley Third Grade Student Joseph Harren was the second Eagle Valley student to earn 100 points in the Accelerated Reader Program.

Mrs. Edna Currie announced her retirement from the teaching profession recently and submitted a letter of resignation to the Clarissa Board of Education. Mrs. Currie’s announcement of retirement came after 32 years of teaching, 12 were at Clarissa.

The Bucs track team finished second in District 22 last Thursday and five boys qualified to advance on to the Regional meet at Morris on Saturday, June 1. Those that qualified were Bryan Cribbs in the shot and discus, David Cook in the two mile run, Steve Woge in the high jump, Tim Sobotka in the 440 yard dash and Duane Asfeld in the mile.
