On June 16, Clarissa residents Evelyn Bain and Dale Foote were named as two of four Todd County Outstanding Senior Citizens for 1999. Pictured are Evelyn Bain, Addie Young and Regina Lambrecht who were crowned at the ceremony held at Grey Eagle. Foote was not able to attend the ceremony.

June 25 will hold special significance for the Smith brothers. Mark will be lighting the first luminary candle at the Heartland Relay for Life in Staples to honor his brother Gary, who is suffering from leukemia. Gary and brother Dave will be hospitalized to begin the procedures for Gary’s bone marrow transplant on June 28. Dave will be his donor.

Sue Sticha, Todd County’s Dairy Princess, was selected as second runner-up to the 1974 Lake Region Dairy Princess Christine Frykman of Grant County.

An oddity that occurred in the Thursday storm was the stove pipe that blew off the roof of Wayne’s Station and stuck in the wall of the adjacent steel shed. Teri Beth Anderson pointed out that rare phenomenon to the Independent.
