25 Years Ago

July 21, 1999

Alyssa and Joseph LaVoie from the Hustlin Rustics 4-H Club, Clarissa, showed their rabbits at the Todd County Fair. Jay Hoffner, Golden Gophers 4-H Club, Clarissa, showed his horse and Courtney Zimmer, Clarissa, showed her sheep.

The Clarissa squad bombed the Wadena squad Friday night in the opener of their best of three series in the Hi-10 playoffs. Mike Hinzmann, 4-4, hit a two-run homer in the fifth inning plus a pair of doubles. He finished with three rounds batted in. Nick Holmquist was 3-4, scored three times, had a two-run shot in the opening frame, and also had three ribbies. Neil Greenwaldt was 2-4 and had a solo tater in the fifth inning, while Monte Hinzmann blasted a two-run round-tripper in the fifth on his way to driving in three runs, and Cliff Cline smashed another two-run shot in the sixth stanza.

50 Years Ago

July 25, 1974

The entire staff of the Clarissa Independent will be on vacation next week, and the office of this newspaper will be closed from Monday, July 29, through the entire week.

Scout Dennis Cuchna will receive the highest honor a Boy Scout can receive in special Investiture Ceremonies this Sunday evening at the Immanuel Lutheran Church.
