25 Years Ago

August 4, 1999

If you see a maroon colored Dodge mini van with the license LDY PSTR (lady pastor), that’s the area’s newest Methodist pastor. Pastor Judy Clark Wharton accepted the bishop’s appointment to the parish, although she had mixed emotions about doing so. “It’s good because I know the people and the territory. It’s bad because some remember me as a child. For some, it’s hard for them to realize I am now their pastor.”

The annual Farmer’s Union Picnic was held at the Clarissa City Park on Sunday, August 1. Many people came and enjoyed the picnic lunch, the ice cream served by Region 4 Dairy Princess Arin Stoterau, milk served by Todd County Dairy Princess Amber Benning and Duane Bartels served lemonade. After the picnic, Dam Remer and Stan Windels entertained with music. 

 50 Years Ago

August 8, 1974

Dennis Cuchna became the first Eagle Scout ever in the history of the Clarissa Scout Troop. The Eagle Scout award is the highest rank a scout can achieve. Dennis is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Robert Cuchna.

Private John R. Pontius, 20, son of Henry A. Pontius of Eagle Bend, completed a seven week supply clerk course at the United States Army Training Center, Infantry. Ft. Ord. California.
