The Clarissa City Council found themselves in the position of trying to settle a neighborhood dispute about where to drive in the alley. Two of the council members live on the same alley and are right in the middle of the controversy. A small crowd filled the council chambers, most of them there to hear the council’s decision on the alley between the homes on east Oak and Mill avenues. After some departed, the council and the gallery toured the alley, and the council returned to the chambers and tabled the issue until the September meeting.

Clarissa got down too far too early and although the Flyers rallied, the team couldn’t pull out a win on Saturday at Marshall in the first round of the State Amateur Baseball Tournament. Princeton edged the number two seed from the recent Region 14C tournament 5-4. This ended the Flyers season in opening action of the state event in a fashion similar to that of a year ago.
50 Years Ago
August 25, 1974
One of the largest crowds in recent years attended the annual meeting of the Farmers Co-op Produce Association at the new Clarissa Ballroom last week on Wednesday evening. Oscar Nelson, president, opened the meeting and Oliver Gilbertson and Dan Reineke were reelected to the board of directors.

Russell Lerfald was the horseshoe pitching champion in Clarissa this week, when he defeated Stanley Hedlund for the top spot last Tuesday, following a week of tournament play in which 32 participants took part.
