Members of the Clarissa Volunteer Fire Department battled a stubborn grass fire last Saturday afternoon which covered nearly 80 acres of dry grass and underbrush. The first alarm sounded about 2:30 when the firemen were summoned to the Leo Stoecker farm where meadow grass was aflame. The firemen thought they had the blaze contained, however a spark must have blown across the railroad tracks and the firemen had to return to the scene and the fire spread to the Wilbur Anderson farm.
