Lions Members Dale Svaren and Chuck Pieper presented checks to the Peace Poster winners last week. The first place winners, Tami Seifert, Tara Dickinson and Erica VonOhlen received $30 each. The other winners received $20 for second place and $10 for third.

The Eagle Valley High School Lady Rebels hosted the Bertha Hewitt Bears in the first girls basketball game of the new Millennium. Both teams came out playing strong defense, but each team struggled to find good shots. The first quarter ended in a 6-6 tie, with Senior Laura Hommerding scoring all six of the Lady Rebels points.

The sun shone brightly Monday morning as Clarissa, along with the rest of the state, began to dig out after one of the worst blizzards of the century. An unofficial report of 15 inches of snow fell in this area from Thursday afternoon through Saturday and wind gusts reached nearly 50 miles an hour. Everything and everybody came to a complete standstill.

Duane P. Lund of Clarissa will compete in the St. Paul Winter Carnival International 500 race, which is scheduled to begin at Winnipeg, Canada on January 21.
