It’s a stretch of the imagination to think of a young girl, born and raised in Clarissa, Minnesota, becoming a world renowned skier, entrepreneur and author. But Edna Strand Dercum has done exactly that. She is the daughter of the late Julius and Anna Strand who lived in a house across from the former Clarissa Creamery building. Several years ago, Edna wrote her autobiography, “It’s easy, Edna, It’s downhill all the way,” with paintings by her son Rolf, and illustrations by her husband Max. Included are numerous photographs of the ski lodge they built, and she details their life in the beautiful mountains of Colorado.

Gabriel Farago, new owner of the Horseshoe Inn, said the inn is “about to take a gallop into the new millennium.” He said the facility, located on Horseshoe Lake near Browerville, will be renamed Gabriel’s and “people will be kicking up their heels once again at Horseshoe Lake.”
50 Years Ago
March 6, 1975
Boy Scout Troop 37 held their first local Klondike Derby on Sunday afternoon, March 2, and deemed it a big success. The Bobcat Patrol had the most points and won the trophy for the day.

Dennis Pooler, Clarissa chief of police, was elected president of the Todd County Law Enforcement Association at a meeting held Thursday evening, February 20, at Clarissa.
