Sven Lindquist, Chief Sergeant of Arms with the Minnesota Senate, was elected associate vice president of the American Society of Legislative Clerks and Secretaries. Lindquist has been an active member of the society for the past 11 years. He has served as a committee chairman and on the executive committee. Sven is the son of Ella and Gene Lindquist of Clarissa.

Lavern Moen offered the council a 66’ x 100’ lot next to the liquor store parking lot for $3000. He used to have his bulk fuel tanks on the lot. The council approved the purchase as well as Moen’s request to increase his front-end loader fee from $5 an hour to $50. He scoops snow for the city.

Ron Jensen and Karen Sobotka were elected as king and queen of the Clarissa High School Homecoming activities by the student body last Monday. They were crowned at a special program at 2:30 p.m. last Thursday at the high school auditorium by last year’s king and queen Spencer Hayes and Gail Thompson.

Airman First Class Arnold Kotval was selected to be in the honor guard at the arrival of the President of the United States as he met the Emperor of Japan when he landed briefly in Anchorage, Alaska during the weekend of September 24.
