25 Years Ago

October 23, 1996

Stormy weather may have dampened the attendance at last week’s Clarissa centennial committee meeting, but a tentative schedule of events was set. The committee is looking for someone to act as the food service coordinator for next summer’s centennial celebration. Committee Chairman Steve Graff said the job is not a tough one, they just need someone to coordinate the various organization's plans for feeding the expected crowd of several thousand people.

The Rebels volleyball team beat the Royalton Royals for the second time this season last week. The Rebels won 3-0. Jill Pontius led the team in serving, 17/18 with 7 ace serves. Sara Bain and Maija Wiltermuth both were 100 percent by serving 11 out of 11 each. Bain had three service aces while Wiltermuth added one.


50 Years Ago

October 21, 1971

Kenneth Helgeson, general manager of the Eagle Valley Cooperative Oil Association, was nominated for the 20th year to the state board of directors of the Minnesota Association of Cooperatives last Thursday evening.

A village landmark of at least 90 years old is in the process of being torn down this week. It is the home of Mrs. George W. Johnson, 90, a pioneer resident who moved to an apartment in the Clarissa Manor about one year ago. It was the girlhood home of Mrs. Oscar L. Nelson, also of this village.
