Honeywell’s SCBA certification withdrawal sparks urgent need

Fire departments nationwide have been hit with a detrimental blow to their safety.
Honeywell sent a notice on January 25 that it has withdrawn its certification for its SCBAs (self-contained breathing apparatus), which provide airway protection from toxic gases and harmful particles encountered in fires.
“Anytime we have a structure fire or a disaster like pipelines breaking, that’s what those SCBAs are for. They allow us to breathe and not breathe in whatever toxin is in the air,” explained Bertha Fire Chief Matt Cardinal....
