Honoring 1060 Veterans

With over 1060 luminaries to be lit in honor of our living and dead Veterans, the Browerville Vets Club once again held a very beautiful ceremony for Veterans Day on Wednesday, November 11.
There was a good turnout of people who volunteered to pitch in and help light the bags.
“It is an amazing sight to see them all and to know that this is just a drop in the bucket of the number who served,” said one of the organizers, VFW Post 8391 Auxiliary Member and Historian Sue Wiersgalla.
During her research this year, Wiersgalla discovered an interesting fact.
“During the 1940s and especially during the 1950s, serving in the military was a fact of life for most young men. It was more uncommon for them to not be in the military than to be in it,” she noted.
