In Focus

It’s done, finally done, just in time...

I have spent every spare second the past week and weekend setting up the Halloween Light Show!

I don’t recall the weather ever being this warm while decorating outside. Sure, it was better than freezing, but man, that heat also takes a toll. I probably lost 20 pounds just in sweat. I don’t know how some of you manage to do manual labor outside every day—I commend you—I would surely die.

I was shocked that I got everything hooked up in one day—that almost never happens. Running the extension cords from the channel box to the props takes time. I must do it one at a time to prevent cords from getting mixed up. It’s a process to keep everything organized and accounted for.

I was so happy to turn on the lights that night and check that everything was working properly. The following night, I was able to test-run the show. Not even 10 minutes after starting the test run, we already had a visitor and a donation. I was ecstatic!

I switched up the layout and added some new props. The Skelly Dog was a gift, and I made two custom headstones using old political signs. I also added a jack-o-lantern arch around the door and gave the tombstones a base to hopefully help keep them standing upright.

Everything is working, and I couldn’t be happier with the results.

The Hewitt Holiday House Halloween Light Show starts October 1 and will run through October 31. Sunday through Thursday, the show will run from 7-9 p.m., and on Fridays and Saturdays from 7-9:30 p.m. As the season changes and darkness falls sooner, the showtimes will be moved up. The show is approximately 30 minutes. Follow the Facebook page for updates. Hope to see you!
